Goldie Hawn Biography

Goldie Hawn

Goldie Jeanne Hawn (born Goldie Jean Studlendgehawn on November 21, 1945 in Washington, D.C.) is a Jewish–American actress who began Goldie Hawn's career as one of the regular cast members on the 1960s sketch comedy show Laugh-In. Noted equally for Goldie Hawn's chipper attitude and Goldie Hawn's bikini and painted body, Goldie Hawn personified a 1960s It girl. On the show Goldie Hawn would often break out into high-pitched giggles in the middle of a joke, yet in the next moment deliver a very polished performance. Hawn won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Goldie Hawn's work in the 1969 film Cactus Flower, which co-starred the now-deceased acting legends, Walter Matthau and Ingrid Bergman.

Into the 1970s and 1980s Hawn remained a popular figure in entertainment, appearing in various films (generally comedies), and moving into film production, as well. Goldie Hawn gathered great respect as a comedy actress, and was outspoken in Goldie Hawn's liberal political views. Goldie Hawn's career died down a bit until 1992 when Goldie Hawn revitalized it opposite Bruce Willis and Meryl Streep in the film Death Becomes Her. Goldie Hawn also played an aging actress in the late 1990s film The First Wives Club opposite Bette Midler and Diane Keaton. Through the late 1990s and beyond, Goldie Hawn has remained popular (in part thanks to the success of Goldie Hawn's now adult daughter, actress Kate Hudson, whose father is the musician Bill Hudson). Goldie Hawn appeared in The Banger Sisters opposite Susan Sarandon in 2002. Goldie Hawn's son Oliver Hudson is also an actor, appearing on the short-lived 2004-2005 (WB) television series The Mountain (television series).

Goldie Hawn has been in a relationship with Kurt Russell since 1983, and they have a son together, Wyatt Russell, who is now in Vancouver, British Columbia learning and playing hockey. Hawn became a grandmother on 7 January 2004 when Goldie Hawn's daughter Kate Hudson gave birth to son Ryder Russell Robinson.

Hawn's father, whose family had been in the U.S. for several hundred years, was a Presbyterian; Goldie Hawn's mother was the daughter of Jewish immigrants from Hungary and Hawn was raised Jewish. Nowadays, Hawn is a practising Buddhist, but still considers herself Jewish, and has raised Goldie Hawn's children, including actress Kate Hudson, in both the Jewish and Buddhist beliefs.

Goldie Hawn's father, Edward Rutledge Studlendgehawn, was a descendant of Edward Rutledge, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence (United States).

Hawn has proved Goldie Hawn's singing talent with a cover version of the Beatles' song "A Hard Day's Night" on George Martin's album In My Life (1998) and, along with Diane Keaton and Bette Midler, in covering the Lesley Gore hit "You Don't Own Me" for The First Wives Club in 1996.

Goldie Hawn has written an autobiography called A Lotus Grows in the Mud (2005) which Hawn claims is not a Hollywood tell-all, but rather a memoir and record of what Goldie Hawn has learned in Goldie Hawn's life so far.

TV REVIEWS: 'Viva Laughlin' falls off the table; 'Band' has a solid beat (Miami Herald)

Critics are always complaining that TV is too timid, too tired and too obsessed with focus groups to try anything truly interesting. So it gives me no pleasure to say that, of two network series premiering within 24 hours of each other this week, CBS' genre-bending "mystery drama with music" falls flat on its face, while Fox's latest music competition succeeds by coloring neatly inside the lines.
